Celebrating St. Martha on July 29.

St. Martha, honored on July 29, is remembered as the sister of Mary and Lazarus and a devoted friend of Jesus. She appears in the Gospels as a woman of action—practical, attentive, and deeply committed to hospitality.

In Luke’s Gospel, Martha welcomes Jesus into her home, busying herself with preparations while Mary sits and listens at His feet. When Martha complains, Jesus gently reminds her that listening to Him is the “better part.” But He doesn’t reject Martha’s work—He calls her to balance. In John’s Gospel, it is Martha who boldly declares her faith in Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of God” before He raises Lazarus.

Martha reminds us that holiness is not about leaving work behind, but about letting faith shape how we work. She doesn’t stop serving—she learns to serve with presence, not anxiety.

For Catholic professionals, Martha is a patron of balance: faith and function, contemplation and responsibility. Whether you’re managing a project, coordinating a household, or leading a team, Martha’s life shows that your work matters—when rooted in Christ.

She invites us to bring Him into our homes, workplaces, and routines—not as an interruption, but as the center.
