Bishop Ireton High School is seeking an Assistant Principal–Dean of Academics at our campus in Alexandria, Virginia. The Assistant Principal-Dean of Academics position is a 12-month, full time administrative position that reports directly to the Principal and someone who can effectively manage dedicated academic program efforts to steward the Catholic education mission of our school.

The Assistant Principal–Dean of Academics is expected to be an academic leader with excellent communication, organizational and technology skills, training and experience in high school curriculum, monitoring and improving student performance, and managing academic programming. He / She must have enthusiasm for collaborating with faculty, staff, and families. This individual acts as a liaison with the Principal to the school community as an instructional leader.

Mission
The Assistant Principal-Dean of Academics is a Catholic school leader with responsibility to:
- Ensure that all faculty understand, can articulate and help to fulfill the mission of Bishop Ireton High School.
- Collaborate as a participating member of the Instructional Leadership Team (Principal and Assistant Principals) and member of the Senior Staff to provide leadership to fulfill the mission of Bishop Ireton High School.
- Plan and prepare curriculum and course offerings, working with the principal and department leaders to review and revise curriculum annually.
- Guide and lead the student course selection process in collaboration with Counseling to assist students and families regarding course selection issues/concerns.
- Analyze needs for sections, teaching assignments, and classroom assignments for master schedule development in collaboration with the principal and ensure needs are addressed.
- Prepare and implement a master course schedule and classroom assignments in collaboration with the principal, and to maintain class information and grading within the portal system (Blackbaud).
- Regularly monitor student performance through review of gradebook grades.
- Identify students who merit honors and awards recognition and assists the Assistant Principal of Student Life with the annual academic and service banquet.
- Identify students who do not meet grade eligibility criteria at the end of each quarter and assign Academic Probation, communicating with students and families and with the Principal, the Assistant Principal for Student Life, the Director of Counseling, and the Athletic Director.
- Identify students when they are eligible to be removed from Academic Probation when mid-quarter reports are issued and communicate as with the notice of probation.
- Serve as an administrative representative to assist faulty and counselors in meetings with teachers of particular students in staffings as appropriate to clarify challenges and brainstorm next steps for students with low academic standing or who are experiencing extraordinary challenges (e.g. extended absence from school) and to follow up as appropriate with the students and their parents.
- Work in coordination with the Principal to participate in problem solving and conflict resolution for teacher/parent meetings.
- Manage the Summer School academic courses, working with the Principal and Counseling department on courses to provide and selection of instructors, and with the Head of School on scheduling and costs.

- Create and communicate a calendar of instructional and grade reporting dates in collaboration with the Instructional Admin Team and Head of School to determine school calendar.
- Facilitate the administration and reporting of grades for semester and end of year exams.
- Approve “incomplete” grades and follow up with teachers to ensure timely resolution.
- Verification of grade entry in a timely manner.
- Releasing reports to students and families.
- With the principal and Assistant Principal–Dean of Faculty, provide supervision of faculty with formative observations and summative evaluations.
- Regularly attend school sponsored events and activities in coordination with other members of the Instructional Leadership Team to provide a visible administrative presence at school events.
- Assist the Principal and the Assistant Principal–Dean of Faculty with recommendations for hiring prospective faculty members.
- Teach a course as needed and as aligned with other duties and responsibilities.
- Collaborate with the Principal to lead Academic Council with faculty department chairs.
- Be prepared and willing to complete other duties as assigned to forward the mission of the school.
- Be a practicing Catholic in good standing
- Master’s Degree in Education and School Administration required
- Holds appropriate Virginia Administration and Supervision Certification or be eligible to obtain this certificate within three years of hire
- Minimum of three or more years supervisory experience as a department head or higher administrative position
- Minimum five years teaching experience
- Experience with reaccreditation and self-study through Cognia or similar accrediting organization preferred
- Ability to utilize the school’s administrative, instructional and assessment technology platforms and programs
- Ability to lead a dedicated, professional faculty toward instructional excellence within a rigorous educational program
- Ability to multi-task projects and duties in a collaborative working environment
