POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be a highly qualified individual that possesses a strong understanding of the University’s mission, excellent attention to detail, strong work ethic, and ability to multitask. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be qualified to provide comprehensive sports medicine care for Franciscan student athletes across every sport.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide comprehensive sports medicine care for the student athletes in 19 varsity sports.
- Handle emergencies, know the Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) and apply them accurately and efficiently.
- Competently provide first aid to student athletes.
- Document the care of the student athlete by utilizing online software and paperwork.
- Oversee the Athletic Training Room as assigned by the Athletic Trainer.
- Assist the Athletic Trainers with coverage of athletic events as assigned.
- Complete injury assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation for student athletes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Trainers and Administration.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training
- Preferred one year of experience or high academic achievement
- Understanding of software and database management
- Injury evaluation; injury prevention skills
- Implement Rehabilitation and Treatment programs
- Various techniques including manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and modalities
- Has knowledge of various therapeutic modalities utilized for pre- and post-treatments
- Has knowledge of various athletic taping techniques and is able to differentiate appropriate use
- Communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively with athletes and coaches
- Empathy and compassion; understanding the physical and emotional challenges of athletes
- Attention to detail; needs to be meticulous in documentation of treatment
- Time management: effectively manage multitasks and priorities in a highly busy environment
- Problem solving to assist student athletes with medical needs
- Must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
- CPR/AED certification
- Must hold or be eligible for Ohio State Licensure
- Will have some travel requirements with teams as assigned by the Athletic Trainer(s)
- Must be available to work various shifts, including night and weekend coverage, as assigned by the Athletic Trainer(s)
- Must be able to perform in a demanding, fast-moving environment.
