Job Title: Student Services SPED Paraprofessional Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC)- Lonetree, CO FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Special Education Teacher/Dean of Student Services Work Hours/Days: Faculty Calendar, School days, professional development days Pay Range: Position Summary: A Special Education Paraprofessional at Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools Inc., supports the delivery of individualized education programs (IEPs) and classroom activities to students with diverse learning needs. Working under the guidance of the Special Education Teacher and school leadership, you will assist with implementing accommodations, modifications, and interventions to foster student growth academically, socially, and emotionally. Your role will include facilitating small group instruction, assisting with classroom management, and providing one-on-one support to help students thrive in a classical education environment. Essential Functions:
  •  Assist special education teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
  •  Provide one-on-one or small group support to reinforce lessons and concepts.
  •  Adapt and modify instructional materials as needed to meet the diverse needs of students
  •  Help manage student behavior by using positive behavior strategies and interventions in various settings, including the classroom, cafeteria, and playground
  •  Implement behavior management plans under the guidance of special education teachers or specialists
  •  Assist in setting up and organizing classroom materials and resources
  •  Support students with organizational and study skills, including note-taking, task completion, and time management
  •  Supervise students during transitions and activities, ensuring their safety and participation
  •  Collect and record data on student performance and behavior as directed by the special education teacher
  •  Assist in monitoring student progress towards IEP goals and other confidential documentation
  •  Assist with the use of adaptive equipment or technology
  •  Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, and other school personnel to support student needs
  •  Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities
  •  Support students in developing social skills and peer relationships
  •  Promote inclusion by facilitating student participation in general education classrooms and school activities
  •  Assist in maintaining a safe environment for students
  •  Be prepared to respond to emergencies, following school protocols and providing necessary support
  •  Support high school students in math
Requirements:
  •  Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  •  School experience in the special education department preferred
  •  Knowledge of a expectations for a classical education or willingness to learn
  •  Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.
  •  Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
  •  Commitment to model moral character in line with the school’s core virtues
  •  Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee
  •  Handbook, Family Handbook, and applicable school and board policies
  •  Proficiency in English verbal and written
  •  Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities
  •  Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
  •  Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
  •  Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skills
  •  Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and team members
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
  •  Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to challenges
  •  Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude
  •  Willingness to take responsibility for being on time and maintaining excellent attendance
  •  Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned
  •  Eligibility to work in the United States
Physical Requirements:
  •  Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  •  Must be able to traverse the classroom and the school
  •  Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer
  •  Must be able to supervise outdoor duties
