Ministerial Character

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Austin are canonically obedient to the Bishop and assist him in fulfilling his ministry and canonical obligations. Pastors, presidents, and principals serve as leaders of the schools to make Christ’s mission present and enduring in the schools. In order to fulfill Christ’s mission, the school leaders employ suitable, chosen collaborators, sharing with them Christ’s mission and entrusting them to their various responsibilities.

Positions employed in this School help extend the ministry of the School leaders in particular ways as outlined in the job description. The employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the School leaders in the performance of their ministry and, therefore, engages in ministry for the Church.

Job Summary

The Communications Coordinator will plan, organize, create, and implement effective communications messages and strategies for St. Theresa Catholic School, supporting school faculty and staff in advancing their objectives and engaging internal community members as well as the wider community.

Primary Responsibilities

Execute all communication and marketing objectives of the parish, overseen by the Principal
Coordinate, write, and design all school communications
Design digital media and print materials including web, email, social media, video, brochures, cards, flyers, posters, signage, etc.
Ensure that all media and messaging are produced and delivered with a consistent tone, look, and voice reflective of the school’s mission and brand
Unify and align communications across the school
Work collaboratively with Chief Operating Officer, Chief Stewardship Officer, and School leadership to execute creative marketing and stewardship campaigns
Maintain the school website, including designing new pages and graphics for events and campaigns, ensuring that all information is always updated and accurate
Manage and maintain engaging social media presences for school, publishing content for social media platforms
Photograph school events/activities and manage digital asset library
Collaborate with Church personnel on communications approach and strategy

Qualifications

Demonstrated fluency in the English language – written and verbal
A strong desire to help people within a thriving Catholic community
Flexibility to handle any tasks or assignments including those outside of normal responsibilities
Effective communication skills for interacting with a broad range of individuals and circumstances
Knowledge of Roman Catholic teachings and parish structure
Ability to work in a multi-cultural parish serving various cultures and a wide range of age groups
Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Ability to work independently at a fast pace with attention to detail
Ability to proficiently communicate in English
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited American college or university (or equivalent in a foreign country) preferred
Must be able to pass a background check before being hired as well as become certified in Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) within 60 days of hire
May be occasional evening or weekend hours as the needs of the school require
May be required to use a personal vehicle to drive off-site locations

Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
Able to serve as a professional ambassador and representative of the school
Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
Able to work well with others in the school community
Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously

Skill in job-appropriate technology
Skill in critical thinking and planning

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree

Experience: None required

Local candidates are preferred.

Certifications and Training: Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.

Required to work in standard office and school condition
This job is a part-time position with a maximum of 25 hours per week
Employee Certification
Valid Texas driver’s license. All employees must adhere to the Catholic Schools Standards of Conduct, the Diocese of Austin EIM policies, and the social, ethical, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as interpreted by the Bishop of Austin.
