K-8 Learning Specialist, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Bremerton

Job Description

Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic school in Bremerton, Washington is looking for a faithful and enthusiastic learning specialist with experience. This is a full-time position that provides individualized support to students needing academic or behavioral support within the class setting or in the resource room. Also, this position assists students in fulfilling the requirements within one’s IEP, Private School Service Plan or 504. The top candidate will work closely with students, teachers, and parents to develop learning strategies tailored to each student’s particular learning style, to help support their academic progress. The candidate will also be familiar with providing classroom teachers with an appropriate behavior plan and assist in implementation.

Learning Specialist Responsibilities

• Helping students to develop effective learning strategies that promote academic improvement.
• Educating parents and teachers about learning differences.
• Assessing and tracking data of students on a weekly basis.
• Updating parents through well written communication on a frequent basis along with inputting strengths and weaknesses on report cards.
• Building supportive, trusting relationships with students.
• Collaborating with local school district personnel regarding formal evaluations.
• Organizing parent and teacher conferences when needed.
• Creating individual curriculums for given students needing intervention.

Learning Specialist Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education or special education (Master’s preferred).
• State teaching license or working towards one (or equivalent certification).
• Experience teaching students in a variety of age groups.
• Have experience teaching within an elementary level classroom
• Knowledge of learning differences and strategies.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and school administration.
• Be a practicing Catholic willing to pledge fidelity to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church
• Clear a background check and complete safe environment training

Salary

$41,000 – $55,000

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
