Vice President for Financial Affairs
Position Overview:
The University of Mary is seeking a seasoned professional to join our leadership team as the Vice President for Financial Affairs. This critical role involves overseeing the financial integrity and administrative functions of our institution, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Serve as a member of the President’s Council, providing high-level strategic guidance on resource allocation and fiscal planning.
- Financial Oversight: Lead all aspects of fiscal management, including budget development, revenue projections, asset management, and audit compliance.
- Reporting and Analysis: Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial reports for the President, Executive Vice President, other members of President’s Council, Board of Trustees, and regulatory entities.
- Investment Management: Direct investment activities for the university’s endowment, trusts, annuities, and operating funds, ensuring compliance and optimal returns.
- Operational Management: Supervise the business office, student financial services, bookstore, physical plant, and human resource functions, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure adherence to GAAP and other regulatory guidelines and manage risk through appropriate insuring and oversight.
- IT Support: Provide financial analysis and support for planning and information technology initiatives.
University Profile:
- Student Population: Fall 2023 enrollment of 3,801, including 2,288 traditional undergraduate students, and 1,513 graduate and nontraditional students. The student/faculty ratio is 10:1, with a 17% minority population representing all 50 states and 19 countries.
- Academics: The University of Mary boasts 294 faculty members, offering 55+ bachelor’s degree programs, 18 master’s degree programs, 5 doctoral degree programs, and 16 pre-professional programs.
- Campus Facilities: 8 campuses with 13 residence halls & apartments, and 3 dining halls. The surrounding area offers 75+ miles of hiking trails, 62 parks, 7 golf courses, and four seasons of recreational opportunities on the Missouri River.

Qualifications:
- Educational Requirements: Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, finance, or a related discipline is required. CPA credential is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible financial and administrative management experience, preferably within an educational or similar non-profit environment. Senior management experience is essential.
- Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of financial management and strategic planning.
- Proven ability to lead budget development and financial analysis in a complex organizational setting.
- Expertise in leveraging technology to enhance business processes.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and managerial skills.
- Ability to make sound judgments and decisions with integrity and resourcefulness.
