Entry Level (0-2 years)
- Perform routine cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing restrooms, hallways, offices, and common areas to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across assigned buildings.
- Assist in maintaining an organized and stocked inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment; ensure all areas are fully supplied for daily tasks and report supply shortages.
- Follow safety protocols and procedures while performing cleaning tasks to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness standards are met; report any issues or maintenance needs to the custodial coordinator.
- Conduct daily building inspections, provide daily supervision and interaction with student workers.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude when interacting with staff, visitors, or others in the building while upholding cleanliness standards.
- Collaborate with the custodial team to maintain cleanliness and assist with additional cleaning tasks or special projects as needed.
- Previous custodial/janitorial experience in a commercial or institutional setting preferred, with a strong understanding of cleaning methods and equipment.
- Experience working independently and as part of a team to maintain cleanliness and order in large facilities or buildings.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols while using cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Prior experience with basic custodial equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, vacuums, and cleaning chemicals) and the ability to perform routine maintenance on these tools.
- Ability to identify areas that require cleaning or maintenance and ensure no detail is overlooked, maintaining a consistent standard of cleanliness.
- Must have working knowledge of computers and hand-held devices. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Familiarity with safety regulations procedures, including proper handling of hazardous materials, and awareness of OSHA standards to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Ability to work effectively in a busy, service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.
- Understand and be fully supportive of the mission of Franciscan University.
- Be detail-oriented to ensure that conditions in assigned buildings are clean, safe, and up to Custodial Manager standards.
- Be proactive versus reactive and encourage team members to do the same.
- High School Diploma
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the University’s auto insurance policy
- Work weekends, special events, and some holidays on a rotational basis and respond to after-hour service calls throughout the year.
- Strength and dexterity to physically demanding tasks,
- Including lifting, bending, climbing stairs & ladders, and standing for extended periods while maintaining a high level of energy and focus.
- Must be able to tolerate inclement weather while walking from building to building.
