Job Summary

The After School Care Assistant fulfills the mission of St. Theresa Catholic School by ensuring the safety of the students through proactive supervision. The After School Care Assistant provides support to the After School Care Coordinator with the preparation of materials and rooms, student supervision and assistance, and ensuring a safe, caring environment for students attending the after-school care program. The position is hired and evaluated by the principal.

Ministerial Character

The principal is the visible foundation of the school, which the Bishop has entrusted to the principal. The principal makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the school. To fulfill this mission, the principal employs suitable, chosen collaborators. The principal shares with them Christ’s mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Positions employed in the school help to extend the ministry of the principal in particular ways, as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the principal in the performance of the principal’s ministry, thereby engaging in ministry for the Church.

Essential Duties

Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Diocese
Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
Communicates effectively with students, parents, and other professionals
Monitors and assists individual students in small instructional groups to support learning activities
Devise and implement daily activity planning
Ensures the safety and security of students
Assists students with homework assignments

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the basic teachings of the Catholic Church
Basic First aid knowledge
Skill in using job-appropriate technology
Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form
Able to work well with others in the school community
Able to maintain confidentiality regarding school matters
Able to manage student behavior
Skill in handling multiple tasks simultaneously
Skill in motivating and engaging students in the learning process
Skill in organizing and relating information in an understandable format

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

1-2 years of childcare, preferred

Certifications and Training:

Must submit an Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) Application for Ministry within the first week of employment, participate in an EIM Basic abuse prevention training workshop within 60 days of submitting a complete Application for Ministry, and maintain EIM compliance during the entire term of employment.
Sufficient training to perform tasks assigned by the principal

Working Conditions

All school employees are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the principal in the exercise of the principal’s ministry and obligations to the school.
Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
Will be required to work in multiple educational settings.
All buildings and vehicles owned by the school are tobacco-free.

Physical Demands

Required to lift or carry supplies, textbooks, furniture, or equipment.
Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak daily.
Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading.
Required to monitor students in a variety of locations, including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather.
