Lead Tutor Job Description

In keeping with the mission of Regina Caeli Academy, the tutor’s primary responsibility is to provide an educational environment in the Catholic tradition in which the students are challenged by word and example to become saints.  

Tutors lead classes from PreK-4 through 12th grade and commit to coming prepared to each RCA class, communicating with parents, and receiving the support of the local and home office administrative staff: 

  • attend all summer training dates and required tutor training calls/meetings
  • read and adjust the RCA gradebook if required per grade (Lesson Plans are accurate)
  • keep accurate grades in FACTS SIS
  • document student behavior as requested
  • Update FACTS SIS gradebook each Tuesday by 2pm
  • follow the tutor guidelines/tutor resource manual that is provided
  • participate in specials (1st – 6th grade: art, music, drama, PE)
  • actively seek out assistance with questions or difficulties in a timely manner
  • provide detailed lesson plans for substitutes in case of absence

Because RCA follows the St. John Bosco method of preventative discipline and a collaborative approach to education, lead tutors also commit to

  • remaining with their assigned students throughout the day according to the hours defined in the Employee’s contract
  • exhibiting a joyful flexibility as needed for subbing or combining classes
  • attend all staff meetings (at the center and on-line when needed)
  • check email daily during syllabus weeks and respond to all emails no more than 24 business hours after receipt 

 

Upper School (7th-12th grade) tutors additionally:

  • available by appointment only for brief tutoring calls on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • attend graduation

All RCA staff at the local center:

    • sign and uphold the Oath of Fidelity to the Catholic Magisterium
    • agree to and wholeheartedly support the media and modesty policies
  • this includes observance of the RCA staff dress code
  • live out and help students to meet RCA’s behavioral standards (as per the Family Handbook)
  • arrive promptly and ready to work according to contracted times
  • are willing to substitute tutor or combine classes as needed due to staff illness or absence
  • relate with the administration, other tutors, staff, students, and parents in a way that fosters mutual respect
  • follow RCA’s time-tested methods of classroom management and child safety practices
  • maintain neat, orderly, and organized facilities
  • remove all items in Family Folders at the end of each workday
