JOB OVERVIEW: 

Support student academic and career development through one-on-one meetings and by coordinating job fairs, career talks, and workshops. Lead students to develop and implement a plan for academic and career success, with a focus on building better habits in the context of the College’s liberal arts program. Help students discern and build both a one-year and a postgraduate vision for their lives. Connect students with alumni mentors and employers with the aim of building professional experience during summers and finding meaningful, gainful employment before graduation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Career Advisor

  • Continue to implement and develop Career Services in a way that recognizes the priority of the College’s demanding academic program, while also equipping students to succeed after graduation.
  • Recruit students and provide one-on-one advising, with emphasis on creating a vision and specific commitments that serve student academic and professional development.
  • Provide graduate school guidance, including announcement of upcoming deadlines and testing dates.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Fall Job Fair and Spring Career Day, recruiting employers and alumni speakers.
  • Nurture current employer relationships through successful placement of students and alumni and proactively recruit new employers who align with the values of the College.
  • Network with alumni and outside contacts—including serving on the Career Services Board chaired by Alumni and Parents’ Association members—to identify mentors, career speakers, jobs, and internships.
  • Create a calendar of career events for the school year: job fairs, guest speakers, recruiting visits, etc.
  • Market Career Events to students through professionally designed flyers and emails.
  • Effectively manage Career Center student workers to assist with marketing and execution of career events.
  • Promulgate opportunities to students of both the California and New England campuses and the alumni via the student careers board, email, and alumni website.
  • Assist in the creation of a College & Career Advising Program for New England campus.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

– Highly skilled in communication, listening, observation, and organization

– The ability to motivate and build rapport with students

– Networking skills to forge contacts among alumni, parents, and prospective employers

– Writing resumes and cover letters, interview skills, building LinkedIn profiles

– Public speaking, leading professional development workshops

– Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, LinkedIn, Airtable (preferred)

– Over 5 years of professional experience in any field (preferred)

– Bachelor’s Degree (required)
