Position Title: Donor Relationship Officer
Reports to: Pastor
The opportunity for the Donor Relationship Officer (DRO) is to create a culture of giving through the cultivation of relationships with an assigned list of *current* donors.
Reporting to the pastor, and in collaboration with staff and volunteers , the DRO will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward personal relationships with individuals for whom St. Mary’s is of significant meaning and value and who have the greatest inclination for larger, multi-year commitments. These efforts will primarily take place through the scheduling and execution of meaningful, in-person visits with individual donors, such as visits over coffee, at the church, over lunch or dinners, etc. The DRO will align his or her focused efforts with the broader mission of St. Mary’s and the pastor’s strategic, long-term efforts.
Major Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:
•Develop and steward a network of current individual donors capable of making significant charitable commitments to St. Mary’s.
•Develop and implement engagement strategies for all assigned donors. Routinely review engagement strategy with pastor.
•Creatively and strategically cultivate relationships with all assigned donors.
•Collaborate with pastor, staff and volunteers in developing and implementing engagement and solicitation strategies.
•Draft and present proposals for one-time and multi-year commitments.
•Solicit, in-person, one-time and multi-year commitments. Align solicitations with pledge drive and other strategic objectives of the parish.
•Track all donor interactions in relationship management software.
•Provide a regular report to the pastor and/or engagement consultant summarizing the portfolio status, previous and upcoming engagements, outstanding proposals, gifts received and renewal rates.
•Maintain a strategic focus on engagement with assigned donors. Spend the majority of time directly or indirectly with these donors.
•Achieve measurable performance in the development of a donor portfolio, donor engagement, and direct solicitation.
What this opportunity is *not*:
•This opportunity does not include Event Planning Special events are in no way the responsibility of the DRO. The DRO is expected to attend some special events in order to interact directly with the network of donors that he or she have been assigned. However, the DRO will not be assigned planning or “behind-the-scenes” responsibilities for these events.
•This opportunity does not include Marketing. The DRO is a high-touch fundraising role focused on a niche category of current donors. This role should not be confused with mass communications, marketing, PR and/or advertising oriented towards broad audiences.
•This opportunity does not include Social Media Management / Content Creation. The DRO will be expected to use email, text messaging, and potentially social media platforms for interacting individually with the assigned network of donors. However, responsibilities for social media, web and other internet-based communications oriented towards broad audiences have been delegated to another member of the team. The DRO’s primary means of communication with each donor is meaningful, in-person engagement.
Requirements & Qualifications:
•Active member of the parish with a commitment to parish mission
•Extensive knowledge of the Catholic faith and experience participating and serving in Catholic communities
•Must regularly attend parish’s weekend Masses at their various times
•Knowledge of and appreciation for the Catholic Church’s liturgical traditions
•Strong passion for people and interacting individually with them
•Strong ability to converse with others of various ages, backgrounds, and view points
•Ability to regularly set and conduct donor visits in a methodical and disciplined manner
•Excellent listening skills
•Excellent public speaking, verbal persuasion, and writing skills
•Creative self-starter with positive, optimistic attitude and a strong sense of initiative
•Collaboration, planning and implementation skills
•Bachelor’s degree in a humanities discipline, business, or related field
