Impact Description:

The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for leading and/or accompanying the parish community for the musical component of weekend liturgies and other special Masses. Main duties involve selection of music, scheduling musicians and cantors in preparation for weekend and special liturgies.  This position will collaborate with Pastor, Liturgy Coordinator and other staff members to fulfill the parish’s vision of worship.

 

How You’ll make an Impact:

  • The Director of Music Ministry at Sacred Heart is responsible for overseeing all aspects of liturgical music for parish liturgies.
  • Coordinates and suggests to the pastor or his delegate appropriate selections of Ordinaries, Propers, hymns, polyphony, chants, and choral pieces for all parish and school liturgies.
  • Leads liturgical music as a conductor, cantor, and/or accompanist.
  • Directs the choir, assembly, and musicians at liturgies (weekend liturgies, holy days of obligation, weddings, funerals, and major events.)
  • Recruits, schedules, rehearses, and supervises cantors, choirs, and instrumentalists for all liturgies.

 

Other Duties:

  • Attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as deemed by Director of Parish Life.
  • Any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our Mission and abide by our church’s core values.

Work Environment:

  • Flexible work environment.
  • Must ensure instrumentalists and musicians are scheduled and present as assigned.

  • Call 5 parishioners each week to check in and invite them to events/ministries

Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or related field.
  • Proficiency in piano; organ preferred (or willing to learn).
  • Ability to lead a choir.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey musical direction.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Proficiency in liturgical principles and the repertory of varied styles of sacred music—especially Roman Catholic musical styles and traditions.
  • Faith-filled: Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic teachings, traditions, and values.
  • Joyful Spirit: A collaborative attitude to work seamlessly within the parish.
  • Ability to work in team environment
  • Ability to work variable hours with a strong emphasis on evenings and weekends
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally
  • Public speaking and meeting facilitation skills
  • Organization and management skills and ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Ability to present oneself professionally to staff, parishioners and public
  • Must maintain VIRTUS compliance
