Job Description – DRE Job Title: Director of Religious Education and Evangelization Classification:  Full Time Salary Range: 37k-50k Salary Reports to: Pastor SUMMARY:  This is a full-time position responsible for the organization and implementation of the religious education program for grades 1 through 12, including sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. Oversight of the Order of Christian Initiation (for Adults and Children) also falls within the bounds of this position. The Director of Religious Education reports directly to the Pastor. BENEFITS:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 80% Program(s) Administration (45%) A. Religious Education Program Grades 1-12

  1. Recruits and trains catechists
  2. Schedules class times
  3. Order textbooks and other materials for classes and workshops
  4. Offers annual in-service training for catechists and volunteers
  5. Conducts catechist meetings
  6. Supervise Sunday morning and Wednesday afternoon/evening religion programs
  7. Schedule and plan a yearly Ecumenical Vacation Bible School
  8. Ensure all Diocesan and Parish guidelines are followed
  9. Acts as Safe Environment Coordinator and submits all volunteer paperwork to Diocese
  10. Meets with all necessary committees

(25%) B. Sacramental Preparation/OCIA & OCIC

  1. Schedules and Coordinates meetings for sacramental preparation/OCIC
  2. Plan annual retreats
  3. Recruits and trains team members
  4. Order materials as necessary
  5. Ensure all Diocesan and Parish guidelines are followed

(15%) C. Youth Ministry

  1. With the help of the Director of Youth Ministry facilitates summer programs
  2. Assists with Youth Ministry events as needed
  3. Plans large-scale retreats with the Youth Minister (i.e. Steubenville)

(15%) D. Finances

  1. Prepares annual budget for Faith Formation program
  2. Coordinate registration and collection of fees for the faith formation program
  3. Prepares and administers BEET Grants
  4. Ensure bills are processed promptly

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position directly supervises all catechists and support staff as needed. Supervisory responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:  College undergraduate degree in theology, religious education, or a related field. Experience teaching parish religion classes; other volunteer and/or teaching experience are desirable. Experience in leadership, team management, and training preferred. OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Understanding of basic office procedures.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work well with others.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality; church business must not be discussed outside the office or with others.
  • Participate in Diocesan professional development training, workshops, and leadership days.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace
  • Flexible schedule including some late nights and weekends
