Primary Function:
Under the direction of the Divine Mercy Academy School Leadership Committee, the
elementary specials teacher will be responsible for fostering students’ intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual growth in a Catholic educational environment. The teacher will be committed to the mission of Divine Mercy Academy, integrating Catholic teachings into the curriculum and daily activities.
General Summary:
The .75 full-time elementary specials teacher will guide and support students in their academic journey while instilling the values and teachings of the Catholic faith. Responsibilities include planning and implementing instructional lessons that align with school standards, maintaining a
positive classroom environment, and collaborating with faculty and staff to promote a supportive educational experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
▪ Plan and deliver lessons in art, music, foreign language, religion, STEM, and PE for kindergarten and first grade students.
▪ Develop age-appropriate curricula for each subject that align with the school’s Catholic
values and educational standards.
▪ Organize student performances, art exhibits, or other events to showcase their talents in music, art, and other subjects.
▪ Assess student progress in each subject area and provide feedback to parents, students, and teachers.
▪ Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and progress reports
▪ Manage classroom materials and equipment for art, music, PE, and STEM activities, ensuring resources are well-maintained.
▪ Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate specials subjects into the broader
curriculum.
▪ Maintain a positive and nurturing classroom atmosphere, promoting respect,
responsibility, and a love of learning.
▪ Attend staff training, parent-teacher conferences, and other school and fundraising events as required;
▪ Oversee student drop-off and pick-up procedures, ensuring students are safely escorted to and from vehicles or waiting areas;
▪ Supervise lunch and recess, ensuring student safety, managing behavior, and fostering a positive environment;
▪ Serve as a role model for students, inspiring them to live out their faith and contribute positively to their community.
Qualifications:
– Must possess First Aid/CPR certification.
– Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage classroom
responsibilities effectively.
– Practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church preferred, with a strong commitment to the mission of Catholic education.
– Proficiency in technology and instructional tools to support learning.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
