Job Summary
McCarthy & Akers, PLC is seeking an Estate Planning Attorney to join our dynamic legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising clients on a wide range of estate planning matters, including wills, trusts, probate, and estate administration. The Estate Planning Attorney will work closely with clients to understand their individual needs and develop customized estate plans that align with their goals.
Responsibilities
- Consult with clients to assess their financial and personal situations, including assets, liabilities, and family dynamics
- Provide expert legal counsel on estate planning strategies, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives
- Draft and review estate planning documents as needed
- Develop tax-efficient estate plans and strategies to minimize estate and gift tax liabilities
- Assist clients with beneficiary designations, asset titling, and asset protection planning
- Conduct thorough estate administration, including probate and trust administration
- Collaborate with other legal professionals, financial advisors, and accountants to offer comprehensive solutions to clients
- Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and legal developments in estate planning
- Provide exceptional client service and maintain strong client relationships
- Represent clients in court if necessary for estate litigation matters
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Virginia
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in estate planning and probate law although we will strongly consider applicants with less experience who show a drive and zeal for serving our clients’ needs
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload efficiently
- Strong ethical and professional standards
- Membership in relevant bar associations and estate planning organizations is a plus
