Global Sisters Report Contract Content Editor

Come join an award-winning team of reporters and editors with a unique view of the world! Global Sisters Report is looking for a part-time contract content editor for 20-25 hours a week to edit a variety of U.S. and international stories, columns, blogs, Q&As and other content. This position would report to the editor and managing editor and work with the international editor.

Global Sisters Report is an online publication dedicated to reporting on and giving voice to Catholic women religious (sisters) around the world. The sisters work in a variety of ministries: preventing human trafficking and assisting victims; helping those who are homeless, poor and marginalized, and finding ways to help protect the earth. As journalists, we also explore topics related to religious life and spirituality. The sisters write columns on a broad range of topics — their ministries, spiritual growth and insights, and religious life.

This part-time, contract editor will be responsible for helping to develop and edit stories by international and national freelance writers for clarity and style, and work with the reporters and multimedia editors to ensure visuals (photos, captions, video and/or audio) accompany those stories.

This editor would initially be required to attend the weekly editors’ meetings on Mondays and staff meetings on Tuesdays, though flexibility could be adopted later to attend one or the other. The other hours can be worked at your convenience. This is a contract position and does not qualify for benefits or paid time off.

Bachelor’s degree or higher, plus at least 5 years of experience in feature and/or news editing.
Expertise in AP style and ability to maintain high standards of accuracy, accountability and integrity.
An appreciation for the Global Sisters Report’s mission, as well as familiarity with the Catholic Church, social and political issues and women religious.
Familiarity with Drupal or other content management systems.
Spanish-language skills are a plus.
Maintain high standards of accuracy, accountability and integrity.

This remote, contract position will be part-time, 20 to 25 hours a week, and does not qualify for benefits. Compensation is based on hours worked and commensurate with experience and other relevant factors.
