Resource-Curriculum and Instruction Director

 

St. Ambrose Dual Language School is seeking a passionate and experienced Resource-Curriculum and Instruction Director to join our team. The ideal candidate will be trained and certified in Orton-Gillingham (OG) methodology and possess a deep commitment to meeting the diverse learning needs of all students.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Orton-Gillingham Training and Certification:
    • Must be OG trained and certified, demonstrating proficiency in implementing OG methodology.
  1. Classroom Support and Recommendations:
    • Provide recommendations to teachers for classroom strategies, accommodations, and alternative assessment methods to address students’ diverse learning needs.
  1. Parent Communication and Support:
    • Consult and communicate with parents of students with special needs, offering information and resources to support their child’s education.
  1. Student Observation and Referral:
    • Conduct formal observations of students recommended for referral to identify their learning strengths and challenges.
  1. Individualized Education Planning:
    • Coordinate the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Individualized Services Plans (ISPs), Individualized Catholic Education Plans (ICEPs), or Student Assistance Plans (SAPs) for students with special needs.
  1. Collaboration with Special Education Personnel:
    • Work closely with public school Special Education personnel to write IEPs/ISPs and coordinate services for students.
  1. Meeting Participation:
    • Participate in child study meetings, IEP/ISP meetings, and eligibility meetings to contribute insights and recommendations for students’ educational plans.
  1. Direct Instruction:
    • Provide direct teaching, co-teaching, small group instruction, and individualized instruction for students with special needs as necessary.
  1. Standardized Testing:
    • Assist in the administration of standardized tests for students with special needs, ensuring appropriate accommodations are provided.
  1. Student Enrollment Screening:
    • Assist the principal in screening new students applying for enrollment, particularly those with special needs.
  1. Assistive Technology Review:
    • Review and recommend assistive technology tools and resources to support students’ learning needs.
  1. Staff Development:
    • Provide staff development opportunities focusing on specific disabilities (e.g., LD, ADD) and intervention strategies.
  1. Curriculum Alignment:
    • Oversee that curriculum and instructional implementations align with Diocese standards to ensure academic rigor and coherence.
  1. Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with the Kindergarten to second-grade team to ensure alignment of instructional practices and student support services.
  1. Higher Education Transition Support:
    • Collaborate with the high school guidance office to assist students with disabilities in determining appropriate institutes of higher learning and transition planning.
  1. Miscellaneous Duties:
    • Accept other miscellaneous duties related to a Resource Specialist as defined by the principal.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Orton-Gillingham training and certification required.
  • Experience in special education, curriculum development, and instructional leadership.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of regulations pertaining to special education.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse learning environments and individual student needs.
