Celebrating St. Thomas the Apostle on July 3.

St. Thomas the Apostle, remembered on July 3rd, is best known for doubting the Resurrection until he could place his hands in Christ’s wounds. But rather than reducing him to “Doubting Thomas,” the Church honors him as a courageous missionary, said to have traveled as far as India, where he preached the Gospel and ultimately gave his life in martyrdom.

His story is deeply relevant for Catholic professionals. Thomas reminds us that faith and doubt often coexist—and that doubt, when pursued with sincerity, can lead to deeper conviction. In the workplace, where decisions must be rooted in reason and evidence, we can relate to Thomas’ desire for clarity. But he also challenges us not to remain in skepticism, but to move forward with trust when truth is revealed.

Thomas’ confession—“My Lord and my God!”—is one of the most profound declarations of faith in the New Testament. It reminds us that faith is not just intellectual assent, but personal surrender. For Catholic professionals, this means integrating faith into every area of life, including work—not just as a set of beliefs, but as a relationship with the living Christ who sends us out, just as He sent Thomas.

May St. Thomas inspire us to seek truth fearlessly, to live our faith courageously, and to surrender to Christ even in the uncertainties of our professional journeys.
