Impact Description:

The Director of Music Ministry is responsible for leading and/or accompanying the parish community for the musical component of weekend liturgies and other special Masses. Main duties involve selection of music, scheduling musicians and cantors in preparation for weekend and special liturgies.  This position will collaborate with Pastor, Liturgy Coordinator and other staff members to fulfill the parish’s vision of worship.

Holy Family Parish is the only Catholic Church located in and serving the community of Stow, OH. We as a parish are focused upon encountering Jesus Christ, being a welcoming home for individuals and families, Eucharistic Worship, and inspiring saints. Stow, OH is the 3rd largest populated city in Summit County, with a median age of 41 years old. Under the direction of the pastor, the Director of Evangelization and Formation provides leadership and oversight for Religious Education, Youth Discipleship and Evangelization, FOCUS Parish Outreach, and other efforts associated with evangelization and faith formation. 1.2.5.   Able to play a wide variety of music from traditional church hymns to contemporary church in support of all Catholic services and the service portions of Mass

1.2.6.   Must be able to read music from the Armed Forces Hymnal and Catholic Liturgical resources and demonstrate competence through supporting documentation and in-person audition

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Youth Ministry

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Coordinator of Youth Ministry (CYM) provides vision and coordination for the parish’s efforts in

ministry to young people from 6th through 12th grades. This includes high school and middle school

sessions, monthly activities, catechesis, helping with Vacation Bible School, Order of Christian Initiation for Adults and sacramental preparation. The ideal candidate is a faithful Catholic who is flexible, a team player and is excited about the opportunity to think outside the box to create new ways to accompany and evangelize our youth. About St. Mary Magdalene Parish Family:

 

St. Mary Magdalene Parish Family is a new grouping of 3 parishes (St. Andrew, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, & St. Veronica) within the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. This position serves all three campuses (within 15 minutes or less from each other).

Education and/or Experience:

B.A. in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, or related field is preferred. Experience in parish youth ministry is desired. Must have knowledge and understanding of Catholic teachings, catechesis and documents on youth ministry.

 

Language Skills:

Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence

and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English, ability to develop and facilitate

youth programs and confirmation sessions; ability to read and understand church documents and

guidelines.

 

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to transport materials and

equipment (up to 30 pounds) to and from various locations. The employee is regularly required to

sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects, talk and

hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust

focus.

 

Physical Environment:

The employee will work in an individual office. The employee will also work at off-site locations for various ministry events, like retreat centers, supervising and directing those events.

Working Conditions:

The employee is required to be physically present in the office in order to complete office task, be

available to work outside of regular business hours as required and check in with and provide

calendar to administrative assistant. The employee must be able to work cooperatively with other

members of the staff and with youth leaders and volunteers. The employee must be able to multi-

task.

 

Other Requirements:

The employee must have knowledge of Church structure and culture. The employee must have

knowledge of current youth culture and current trends and issues within those cultures. Requires

the ability to maintain confidentiality.

A Regional Coordinator’s work includes, but is not limited to, improving existing groups, recruiting and activating community members, and encouraging student involvement in all 5 Pillars: Effective Education, Industry Impact, Public Policy, Rapid Response, and Supportive Services. This position is core to the general operations of SFLA of working with pro-life campus groups and encouraging participation in the Pro-Life Movement. Purpose:

Create an environment for worship through music that will enable the Community of St. Odilia to express and share their gift of joyful faith, to nourish and strengthen their faith commitment, and give music ministers the confidence and opportunity to share their musical gifts and to develop a deep love and thorough understanding of liturgy and how music integrates with it. The Music Director will direct the parish choir and musical ensembles in a way that invites and encourages the active participation of the entire faith community in the liturgy.

Music Leadership and Direction of Music Groups

Coordinate and schedule liturgical music in the parish for weekend worship, communal reconciliation, funerals, weddings, and special events, either personally or by delegation.

Lead liturgical music on Saturday evenings, Sunday mornings, at special parish events (specifically, the Parish Mission, First Communion, Parish Festival, Holy Week, Advent) and at liturgies of reconciliation.

Provide support and direction for parish handbell choir.

Establish and carry out plans/programs of in-service in liturgical music.

Collaborate with the various musical groups to recruit and train volunteer music ministers (vocal and instrumental) in order to develop the parish music ministry.

Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan for all music groups and ensure that all music licenses and music subscriptions are current.

Lead the choir and conduct weekly rehearsals, providing liturgical formation, music education, and preparation for specific liturgies so that all music is well rehearsed and prepared prior to each liturgy.

Lead liturgical music for weekly school Mass and annual school graduation Mass.

Music Development

Explore music resources to find music for all areas including contemporary, traditional and legacy St. Odilia music to use in parish liturgies.  Provide individuals and groups with new music, working with musicians during rehearsals to help them learn and incorporate the music.

Assess and analyze strengths and areas for development and improvement of liturgical music through on-going evaluation and feedback.

Optional:  The Music Director may write and/or arrange their own music consistent with Catholic teachings and approved by the Pastor.

Worship Team

Participate as an active member of the worship team and attend Worship Team meetings to plan for and evaluate parish liturgies. Maintain necessary files, records, and inventories for liturgical music.
